Yellow Iris Flowers - A Gallery

Yellow irises can be so beautiful, and add so much joy and "life" to a garden. It has an upbeat feel that also is a great complimentary flower. Whether you are just looking for something for a bouquet for a table, bouquet to give as a gift, a corsage, or to plant in your own garden, you can't go wrong with a yellow iris as your choice.

In all honesty, in the past I have not been naturally drawn to yellow irises. My guess is because I just don't hold yellow as a favorite color. The things that have changed my mind somewhat however, are things like how cheerful and joyful they are, due to their bright happy color. There is almost an energy all its own, in the color of yellow irises! The other thing is that the yellow color brings out some of my other favorite colors, like blues and purples. It can make other colors "pop" so to speak. In this sense, they are indispensable to a gardener that wants to maximize color in their gardens.

My hope is that you can just enjoy the yellow irises in these photos, and maybe get some ideas of what to plant with yellow iris, or what to use in flower design with yellow iris in regards to colors and more. I will go photo by photo of the examples I give in this hub, using the numbers as a guide.

One last thought before we go to the photos, did you know that a yellow iris is known as a symbol of passion? I found that interesting. The more I see them, the more I can see how that is the case.

Photo 1 - This photo is of people enjoying an iris garden. In the foreground are some yellow iris of course, and you can see how much attention they do "grab" in a garden like this. They add so much to the overall color design, in my opinion. They truly seem to exude an energy all their own in a way that not many other colors can pull off. They seem to reflect the light of the sun!

Photo 2 - These yellow iris seem to dominate this area of the garden, but you will also see some black iris (yes black! very unique I think!), and also a coral or peach color iris. A unique color combination I wouldn't have thought of, but it works in the garden for sure and is lovely.

Photo 3 - Pure white irises paired with the yellow iris. You can see more colors in the background, but I like how these two colors work together. There is a powerful statement being made by these two lovely colors of iris that I wouldn't have anticipated if you told me! They seem like two softer colors, with not much wow factor, yet when you seem them like this they really come alive.

Photo 4 - These are a completely different type of iris, but are yellow irises all the same. Yellow Siberian Irises, and yellow water iris are lovely near ponds or water of any kind. They are unique and really beautiful wherever you grow them however. This is a Chinese garden in a botanical garden. I love the water and bridge and big rocks, but especially the yellow iris.

Photo 5 - Yellow and magenta look very nice together! There were so many other people there admiring the irises when I was.

Photo 6 - Closer up view of yellow irises growing, with some white and blues in the background. I think they are so lovely and would love to grow some of my own like these.

Photo 7 - Bright, creamy yellow iris, with some purples and blues nearby. I love this color combination maybe the best, except maybe for the combination with some magenta in there as seen in photo 5.

Photos 8 & 9 - These show how tall and stately these yellow irises can become. Bearded iris are like mini works of art themselves I think anyway, but you can see these among the other colors in the garden and what kind of impact they make.
