Water Gardening - Plants and Flower Photos

I love water gardens wherever I see them. They take some time and upkeep, but seem to be very much worth the effort. There are many wonderful things about water gardens, but two of the things I like most are the peace and tranquility they provide, and the movement they bring to a garden. It creates a peaceful, restful atmosphere especially when filled with things you love, or that attract things you love or both. For me, it would be butterflies, dragonflies and water lilies, and the sound of the water.

Waterlilies aren't the only plant that can grow in the water. I show some in the photos here in this hub. All kinds of beautiful plants and flowers can grow in water. Its as if a whole new world opens up to the gardener when they add a water feature of some kind.

Different Options for Water Features

One need not have a pond to have a water feature. There are some other options as well. These may be good for people with smaller children that you don't near water with any depth to speak of. One idea is to have a fountain that splashes out onto pebbles. This makes a lovely effect, and draws in butterflies looking for semi wet stones in the heat of the summer.

You could have a shallow trough set up, that is recirculating water through a pump. Since this is a smaller feature, you can place it almost anywhere like a back deck or a front porch. If you have a place to sit on your front porch or back porch, then you can really enjoy the water feature you choose.

Our latest water feature

The last time we were at Lowes, we saw so many different water garden supplies and fountains for sale. We did get one, and it was so nice. It was a gift for our anniversary from my husband, and we both had been wanting one for some time. There is some scroll work, and a lovely shape that water comes up and out of, and trickles down. Trick is to figure out how to best keep that water flowing out. What is nice, is there is a little pool of water at the bottom. Its so nice to have a water feature like this in the garden.

Small Ponds

The nice thing about small ponds, is that they can be any shape or size. There are lots of aids to get started on such a project, or you could hire someone to do it for you if that is a route you choose to take. It used to be that ponds were square in shape, or rectangular. Now that has changed as have the options to have the water level where you want it. Depending on if you want a bog garden, or a wildlife area will help to dictate what you decide to go with.

The ponds in this hub are done by professional master gardeners, but they are a good example of just how nice they can be, and how many different kinds of plants you can grow in them. You will notice a lot of lily pads and water lilies. I absolutely love those plants and flowers. The dragon flies love them too, and they make the perfect inspiration for an artist.

My favorite water lily pond to date was in the Botanical Garden in Colorado. It was called Monet's Water Lily Garden, or something like that. It was huge, and had the largest variety of water lilies I had seen to date. The view of this particular garden pond, helped me to realize Monet just had to paint his water lilies series. It was absolutely stunning and gorgeous.

In these photos, I love a few other things, like the statues and fountains, as well as the large leaved plants and pretty little flowers that were happily blooming. It makes me long for summer again, when it will be time to see all these beautiful things again. I will enjoy the photos and other gardens until maybe one day, I will put in my own pond.
