Saving Money on Shipping and Mail

I was so surprised when I first learned of how you can get free boxes and envelopes from UPS, the USPS, and Federal Express for your shipping and mailing needs. They will even ship it to you for free! Its hard to believe there could be such service minded companies out there anymore, but alas there are. So for me, this has to be one of the best was to save on shipping and mailing that I know of. If you can so easily cut out the costs of the packaging in your shipping, you are already off to a great start and your costs are already being cut way down. It is not limited to boxes and envelopes either, tubes are free as well. Thanks to UPS, USPS and Fed Ex for this amazing service. (I will share more links further below in the hub as well, as the below link is just UPS.)

You can get 10 and 25 kg boxes, as well as a world ease document box or an express tube. You can find out more by going to this link.

Free Pick up for your packages from the United States Postal Service

When you are sending out a package or even several packages, why not consider free carrier pick up to do so? This is another amazing service put out by the United States Postal Service. This can save you time and gas money and extra work. Whether you are just a busy person or an elderly person that could benefit from free pick up, you will surely be thankful to know about this option if you didn't before.

Your mail carrier will pick up your package or packages when the deliver your regular mail. You can schedule this for the next pick up day or up to three months out. I think it is such a wonderful service.

Calculate exact postage

Another way to save money with mailing is to know exact cost of what you are mailing. I am sure you have done what I have, put on a bunch of extra stamps to make sure your envelope gets to where it is going. Some may do this with boxes as well, or large envelopes. With the USPS online calculator tool, you can figure out the exact price so you can save money overall by not overpaying on shipping. Click this link to see the online calculator tool.

Plan ahead and mail early & Don't assume all rates are the same.

I hate to admit that there have been times where I put off mailing a package until closer to the last minute. After paying the high prices for either overnight or next day, I learned the hard way that you can save a lot of money by planning ahead and moving forward with your shipping. You can save many dollars on one shipment. The difference is astounding.

There have been some studies done on overnight shipping if you do have to take that option. Do not assume that the "big 3" are all basically the same, as they are not. By going to their sites, you can find out more details. Sometimes the price was doubled or tripled based on some mailing studies they did. The best score at one point was the United States Postal Service to overnight a book in a large cardboard envelope, for instance. So even you are paying more to overnight or next day something, shop around and save.

Thanks. Have you tried one of the "if it fits . . . one price anywhere " boxes at the post office? Great deal IF your package is heavy. If not, a bubble envelope is much cheaper to mail.

Truckstop Sally, I have tried that and used it a few times. I agree, its great if what you are shipping is heavy especially. Its great to hear what works for different people. I like to use bubble envelopes too.

I'm always glad to save some money, thanks for the info. I definitely agree with planning ahead and sending mail early, I've made the mistake of not doing that too many times already!

Tmill, thank you for your comment. I agree with you, its one of the things I regret too, not sending something early enough. I hate to pay extra for things just because I didn't plan ahead. Glad you stopped by. :)
