Patriotism in the United States
67Patriotism in the United States
I grew up with grandparents that loved their country, and were to proud to be American citizens. They instilled some of that into me, and I am so grateful for it. From Fourth of July celebrations, to volunteering during voting, they enjoyed celebrating and promoting patriotism. They taught us to not take things for granted in this wonderful country. They taught us that freedom isn't and wasn't free. There is such a rich history on how to get to even be free. It helped us to not take it for granted.
Over the decades, I have seen less and less patriotism in our country, and a moving away from what made it great to begin with. I know it would be hard for my grandparents to see if they could see it now. Especially for my grandmother. I recall my baby niece being born, and my grandfather holding her and saying something about the state of our country and our world. How she had no idea how much things seemed to be changing, etc. It could have been seen as negative, but I knew what he meant. I understand now more than before.
At any rate, I am encouraged to see that some people are still VERY Patriotic, and proud to live in the United States of America. I hope that the entitlement philosophy that has been pervading our country will lessen up some. I hope that people can be strong when times of testing come, and already are coming. I hope that people will seek out the truth for themselves, and not automatically just believe everything they are told. (Especially on the news and in the papers.) Never underestimate the power of your own vote, and voice. Take that little bit of extra time to do those things you wonder if they will make a difference or not. Write to your Mayor, or Representatives. Call them, write to your papers, if you are concerned.
May God continue to Bless America, and may American's be grateful for what a wonderful country they have. May they fight hard to keep it that way.

Maybe we put to much into the celebration and not enough
into the reason for that celebration. Independence day is much more than hot dogs, burgers and fireworks, it should be a time to read the Declaration of independence as a reminder of our good fortune to be born Americans.. I did say Independence day since it is about Independence, it just happens to be celebrated on July 4th.
