Lip Balm & Lip Gloss & Chapstick Addictions
Lip Balm and Lip Gloss addictions?
Do people really have lip balm and lip gloss addictions? Evidently they do! It can start out relatively easily, being in line as a kid in the supermarket, not allowed to get candy but hey, what about a cherry chap stick? Maybe mom or dad would let you get one, if you could convince them your lips were chapped and sore, and the smells were so fun. It can start that way, or the first time a young girl gets some lip smackers in her Christmas stocking, and then it just never ends. Who knew that non edibles could smell so amazing? Once you grow up, you find that there is a never ending array of different lip balms and glosses, even medicated ones for the occasional cold sore.
At any rate, I will never forget the smell of cherry chap stick, or the green mint one, even the plain black chap stick, though that was my least favorite of them all. I don't usually get those any more, but I can still smell them in my memory, almost literally. Now, there are practically innumerable varieties out there just waiting to be discovered. Does anyone else remember those huge lip smackers that were like triple the diameter of the regular lip smackers? I recall sour grape, bubble gum, and strawberry flavors among many others.
Every time winter comes around, and the wind starts to blow, or even in
good weather and you just want a great sun protection factor for your
lips, lip balms definitely come in handy. Who doesn't want healthy and
happy lips? It was interesting to find out there are people that
really do buy too many of these fun lip products that are sold just
about everywhere. The video shows a news story on it which is rather
cute. I was surprised to see that there was even a website dedicated
to lip balm and lip gloss addictions! It is not just females by any
means either, guys struggle with lip balm addictions as well.
I forgot about the chap stick scene from Napoleon Dynamite, and other movies. People make lip balm a part of their everyday life, even without realizing it perhaps. That is a product that really took off and the original creators probably had no idea how popular it would become over time.
What is really interesting, is that now you can buy very "upscale" lip gloss, that is $20.00 or more. You can do a search on Lancome lip glosses the famous Juicy tubes, or MAC makes some great ones, even Bobbi Brown Cosmetics. I was amazed to find many lip gloss videos on you tube, many sharing their favorites, what they liked and didn't like about lip glosses. Suffice it to say, I felt much better about my own love of lip gloss and lip products. Hey, I have chappped lips sometimes or dry lips if I don't take care of them, so its ok if I feel justified right? At any rate there is some lip balm or lip gloss out there for just about anyone, male or female, on any budget. That is good news! You can even find some yummy chocolate, strawberry, and bubblegum lip glosses at the dollar store, OR you can go to Nordstroms and find some new favorites.
There are lip lacquers, lip glazes, and all kinds of applicators as well to give you just what you are looking for. Stila lip glaze is a great one and I have enjoyed some good Estee Lauder lip glosses as well. So, the true lip gloss and lip balm addicts are now tempted more than ever. At least there is help if you need it. Just so long as it doesn't interrupt your life and cause you to lose more money than you should spend on it. I think its a rather innocent and fun addiction, with no ill side effects on one's health. If you have a favorite lip balm or gloss to share, please do share below in the comments.
Some new balms and glosses to try
If you are "itching" to try a new lip balm or gloss, wy n ot try some of these? There are literally way too many to mention, but here are few to get you started or keep you going. While some of the items mentioned below, aren't "new" on the market necessarily, they may be new to you.
Lip Balms Burt's Bees Beeswax balm (plain and in a variety of colors), Chap stick, Blistex, Oral B Essential extra moisture with spf 15, Carmex (try the cherry variety!), Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula in Dark Chocolate & Peppermint, Bonne Bell's Lip Smackers, Lip Rageous and Blamtastic lip balms. I have heard that Einstein makes a great lip balm, as does Kiehl's, and Mud. Last but not least, try Softlips, Natural Ice, EOS Lip Balm, Neutrogena, Savannah Bee Company, and Sephora Lip butter. If you have never tried Elizabeth Ardens 8 hour creme lip protectant stick, you have to try this. Its amazing, I have loved it for years, and it comes in different tints as well. I heard Rose Bud Salve is another great one to try, and Nivea has a good one for lip care.
Lip Glosses Stila Lip Glaze, Nyx, Lancome's Juicy Tubes, Bobbi Brown, Smasbox, Laura Mercier, Beauti Control, Mary Kay, Redkin's Vinyl Glam, MAC, Clinique, Estee Lauder, and a surprising new breath freshening favorite is Mentha Lip Tints by Co Bigelow. Its amazingly minty and has wonderful sheer colors. Another cute one to try is the little metal pots of lip gloss put out by Watkins, yes the people that sell vanilla and spices! L'oreal has several to try, as does Smashbox and Christian Dior, and Victoria's Secret. If you are into lip plumpers at all, there is one that supposedly works very well, called Lip Venom.
"Unlikelies" There are a couple that fall into the "unlikely" category, and these would be Mentholatum, Vaseline, and Bag Balm. One of my best friends and I fell into a habit of using Mentholatum for our lips during our highschool years. We would get the smallest little pot and use it for lip gloss! This is especially great if you happen to have a cold. I just love that menthol freshness and it makes your lips feel great.
One last thing to consider when going outdoors especially, is to use a balm or gloss that has a good sun protection factor in it. You don't need to put your lips through that sort of abuse and damage, the kind that can cause skin cancer over time never mind wrinkles. Take care of your lips, they don't pigment the same way the rest of your skin does so they need some extra tlc.
Enthusiastic Lip Balm Addict, some fun lip balm suggestions.
The site, lipbalmanonymous.com is real even though partly humorous, and
helps people wanting to stop using too many lip balms. I am not sure
it is necessary to never use them at all, as a way to cure lip balm
addiction, but maybe they would say I am in denial perhaps? I think
some people breathe with their mouth open all night, and can't help it,
and if they don't have lip balm, they can get extremely dry lips, along
with lip licking. Lip licking or lip picking once chapped only makes
things worse. I think a good lip balm can really help these people.
The SPF is really great for people that are getting Ultra violet rays
(whether UVA or UVB rays) from the sun, on their lips. Lip balm with
spf seems the best way to apply that.
