Different Garden Designs in a Gallery

Garden design has a long history, and the more I learn the more beauty and talent I see involved. The gardens displayed here are some that I have collected over time. I took these photos because I loved how each garden was designed and executed. Often these same gardens look different with the changing seasons which is a real plus for gardeners and those that view such gardens.

I am in awe of what I see so often in regards to garden design. It helps me to see what other gardeners have done over time, to see if I would like to duplicate the design or a small portion of it in the area I have to work with. Time, money and land are always the key components that sometimes keep people from creating such lovely gardens. For me, I love to do gardens based on themes, and I plant accordingly. For example, my butterfly garden that was made and intended to draw in butterflies at all stages of their life cycle. I hope you enjoy the little garden tour here of different garden designs.

Photos of Different Gardens

Photos 1 & 2 - This is part of a larger boxwood garden. I absolutely love what the gardeners have done here, especially the little touches like the welcoming pineapples up high. I love the brick, the beautiful gazebo, the water fountain part, and the Japanese maple as well.

In photo 2 you see a different angle of the same basic area. I love everything about this classically designed boxwood garden. It is very classy to me.

Photo 3 - This beautiful garden area incorporates both small and large trees in its design, as well as many colors in the leaves and flowers. There is a sandy area where everything is growing that is kept very clean and raked to keep it beautiful all the time.

Photos 4 & 5 show the same bridge, but totally different angles and with different things done with the surrounding garden in each example. This is part of a Japanese garden design, and its one of my favorite places. I love the Japanese influence both subtle and outright as with the pieces showing traditional Japanese meaning. You can see bamboo marking off different areas as well. There is a lot of ideas related to Zen incorporated into gardens like these. Very peaceful and lovely and relaxing.

Photo 6 - A colorful Iris garden with curving paths throughout. There are small rocks that make up the paths, and brick to set apart different parts of a large iris garden. The beauty found in irises always amazes me, and I like the idea here of the strong focus on just irises. Its absolutely gorgeous in Spring. A gardener could get creative with what to do with the areas between the irises the rest of the year.

Photo 7 - Woodland Gardens are like a magical world to me. I love the paths throughout, and I like how this path is paved with large slabs of stone or rock. The bench is very inviting and I could rest out there all afternoon if I had the time and a good book and some iced tea! This is a neat garden idea for people who are limited with lots of shade that comes with a more highly wooded area.

Photo 8 - There is a water garden in the middle of the colorful purple and green areas here. This design is incredible to me, and every inspiring. It would take a bit more work, but if achieved could then just be maintained. The rows of colors in the garden area around the pond are amazing. They are different colored leaves, like the vegetables grown in vegetable gardens, here paired with purple chrysanthemums and more. Very lovely, and pleasing to the eye.

Photo 9 - I love this little sunny garden area that is growing all kinds of herbs, flowers, and various succulents as well. The best part is the little wooden structure with a couple of benches inside of it. There is a little artistic, but simple fountain on the wall inside there as well. A great way to spend some time outdoors.

Photo 10 - This is a large rose garden, and this is the outside looking in view. The large white fence and gates are built in a circular pattern around the rose garden, and there is a fountain in the middle of it as well. To top off this beautiful area, is Dale Chihuly glass art on the rounded fence tops.

Photo 11 - This is one to click on, to see the statues up high in the background of this colorful flower garden. For me, nothing really beats a beautiful, colorful flower garden. This is a super lovely example to me of what someone has done with their idea of a flower garden.

** A key recurring idea I see recommended and used is that people are best to work with the lay of the land as it is when creating gardens. It is nice sometimes to manipulate the land some, but to go with what "is", is often the best idea. I think a lot of what has been done here in these photos besides the man made ponds, has kept to that basic idea.
