Buds - A Critical Stage of the Flower
Where would we be without flower buds? They are often a thing of beauty in themselves, depending on the stage of the particular flower. These pictures are to celebrate the flower bud, without which we would have no flowers.
We wait for the flowers in full bloom to enjoy, but we need not wait. Notice the colors and designs shown here, that either disappear later in the bloom stage, or change altogether the look of the flower. These plants need continual nourishment and enough moisture to keep the flower going until it blooms. There is nothing worse than finding some blooms that have died, because they couldn't get past a dry stage, or for some other reason. Photos of Different Flower Blooms
Photo 1 - This color of pink has to be one of my all time favorites. The combination of brightness of the color and the richness really catch my eye. They look great in the garden. These are geranium flower buds. I love them even at this stage!
Photo 2 - These are purple asters, if I am not mistaken. You can get a hint of the bright golden yellow center that will emerge as the petals open up. For now, they look like just a pretty purple color, with silvery foliage. The stem even has a unique color here.
Photo 3 - Mums, as in chrysanthemums. Aren't these a pretty color as well? I guess its no secret I get excited about flowers. Anyway, this photo captures some open and closed. In the Midwest, and I am sure elsewhere, these are so popular in the fall, or autumn. Great flowers for keeping blooms going through to the beginning of winter.
Photos 4 & 6 - These are both four o'clock flowers. They are bright, and I love them in the garden! The second one, photo 6 shows how tightly closed the buds get. If you have never grown these, I would highly recommend it, as they are a very fun flower that put on quite a show in my opinion.
Photo 5 - The beloved hydrangea flowering bush. I know of so many people that love hydrangeas. They are perfect for the somewhat shay part of a garden and can grow to be quite impressive in size! These hydrangeas are only starting to open here. I love the pinks, blues and purples these flowers come in. Even white and lace capped hydrangeas are so beautiful.
Photo 7 - Such an interesting flower bud to me! I love zinnias, its no secret. This is an unopened zinnia flower, about to open to its bold and bright bloom. One of the more interesting buds that I grow in my garden.
Photo 8 - The hibiscus flower bud looks rather different from the final bloom it will become. It also has an interesting and elongated bud that opens into a very glorious and big flower! I love them. The colors on just this one bud are amazing to me, but then with nature, it doesn't take much to impress me.
** My hope here in part, is to inspire some to enjoy every stage of the flowers that we grow and see in gardens. Keep an eye out for an unopened bloom that looks extra interesting in design or color. They are little works of art in and of themselves.**

Here's a tip for you If you want to dig up your Hibiscus in the fall. Before you plant your new Hibiscus, cut off the bottom of the pot you buy it in, then just pant it with the remaining pot intact. This will allow the plant to drink the ground water but will stop the roots from growing horizontally, they will only grow down, it makes it easy to dig up in the fall and you wont have to worry about your pots drying out on hot days :)
What a nice little treat to have on a winters day. I have of late taken a shine to the mums. They seem to bloom later in the season here and when everything else is practically gone... there are the mums. Another great hub oceansnsunsets! It is full of detail and delight.
These are such beautiful photos. This hub is a great reminder that there is beauty in all stages of the flower, not just when they are fully opened. I will be sure to take a closer look at my flowers before they open this year - and take more photos of the buds. Thanks for brightening up this grey day!
Voted up and beautiful. Absolutely exquisite photography. Lovely!

Very cool hub about flower buds. You have a great eye for fine details and I really enjoyed these photos. Number 8 is my favorite and I also love fully bloomed hibiscus flowers.
Thanks for allowing us to see nature's bounty through your finely tuned eyes.
Voted up, useful, beautiful and awesome.
Amazing pictures. Some of these are just as beautiful closed as when they are in full bloom. Great photography.
I was always interested in drawing, painting, and observing flower buds. Thanks for sharing your viewpoint. It was a treat.
I always enjoy your Hubs, and look forward them! I voted this one UP, etc. I always like the Hibiscus when it's in bud. Good night.
Beautiful pics! Up, following, SHARING.
Fabulous photos I love them all, my favourite is the geranium.

Nice crisp and clear pictures, good job on the description as well. I grow the Hibiscus tree every summer and have to dig it up in the fall, I also have the dinner plate Hibiscus that is hardy for my climate, but is very fickle about where it's planted but puts on a great show. Good hub oceansnsunsets, voted up and beautiful :)
