Going to Botanical Gardens

I discovered the world of "botanical gardens" a few years ago, and was so impressed I thought it worth showcasing. If you have never been to one, you ought to do yourself a favor and go, even if you think you are not "into" gardening. They are one of the most serene and happy places I can go to.

The Botanical garden featured here is in Missouri, and we went there while visiting family, and I have to say that pictures don't quite do it justice. Some of the gardens they have there are water gardens, herb gardens, vegetable gardens, tropical gardens, flower gardens, and all kinds of trees just to name a few.

One of the many benefits of going to a botanical garden, is that you can learn much more about gardening in your area, or "zone". You can see what obviously does "well", where you are. In particular its always helpful to know what kind of perennials enjoy different climates, especially now that I am in an area that freezes in the winter. I like to know what kinds of plants will come back after a hard freeze.

That said, I really really enjoyed the Botanical Garden in Phoenix Arizona, another climate altogether that was just really breathtakingly beautiful to me!! The saguaros alone, were worth seeing there. They had a butterfly garden as well, on display, along with many historical facts about gardening in the past in the desert.

You will find its hard to take in a whole botanical garden in a day, but its never something you will regret, I have found. Its truly inspiring to me, and I feel like I am taking a walk in the park, but in a kind of place that poets write about. :) Even if its a drive to the nearest one, you will be glad you took the time.
