Beautiful Stained Glass Creations

Updated on April 19, 2012

The Beauty of Stained Glass

I can't remember the first time I enjoyed seeing stained glass, and it is as if I have just always loved it.  Whether in a Tiffany Lamp, window catcher, or a huge stained glass window on a church or elsewhere, I have always loved the artwork.

This Tree of Life example is one that I simply love.  It is done by Louis Comfort Tiffany. It is simply gorgeous and very eyecatching to me.

Stained Glass

Stained glass is generally seen in works produced from stained glass. Sometimes, it is referring to different colored glass as a material to be worked with. The places that I come across it the most seem to be churches or older historical buildings. If you look for it though, you will see it everywhere from front doors, to sun catchers in people's windows. I had a beautiful frame once, that unfortunately broke, but it was very very beautiful. You can see it in trinkets and little treasure boxes, which make great gifts. You can see it in art and sculpture as well.

In the example I give here, you can see a lamp from Louis Comfort Tiffany. These works of art have to be some of my favorite kinds of stained glass. I have seen them in museums, stores, and Victorian Bed and Breakfasts.

One real neat place we saw some great stained glass was in an old Hotel in Wyoming. It was one hundred years old.

Stained glass often is colored by adding metallic salts during its production. People craft the glass pieces and sometimes arrange them into ornate and beautiful designs. It is kind of like patchwork, like quilting sometimes. I have seen some quilts that remind me of stained glass, if you can believe it. Simply beautiful artistic work.

Sometimes colors can be painted onto the glass and then fused with heat (like a kiln.)

Some of my most favorite places to view stained glass, is in ancient buildings. Its amazing that it is still intact so often, and is a testament to the art and artist that did those pieces. I am thankful to those that have that art and can craft such beauty in whichever ways they do.

The video I share here shows some pretty pieces, and I like the music as well, which is very unique.

Some stained glass has a story behind it, like something having to do with history, religion, folklore, and more. Its really neat to see those types of art, and when naturally lit with sunshine, I think they are simply stunning.
